Microneedling
Microneedling Treatment
Microneedling is one of our favourite treatments because it truly makes a difference to your skin quality and the texture of it, long-term. Using the newest innovations when it comes to the microneedling world, we vary our depth according to the skin concern and/or area we are treating (from superficial depth when refining pores, to very deep to treat scars). This is one of the few treatments that can be safely used to treat fine lines right up to the border of the lower eye, as well as tighten skin on the upper eyelid.
Microneedling works by causing thousands of invisible and virtually painless perforations in your skin. By creating these microscopic channels (a controlled injury), your body responds by releasing growth factors which increase the formation of new collagen and elastin. The micro channels also allow the deeper penetration of treatment solutions for optimal benefit.
- Get firmer skin and regain elasticity
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Even out pigmentation
- Reduce age spots and broken veins
- Improve the appearance of stretch marks
- Pores become finer
- It can also be used to treat acne scarring
Microneedling is a valuable tool to include in your skincare program, because it’s minimally invasive, there’s little downtime and it is a treatment that addresses multiple ageing skin concerns. But it is equally important to use this treatment correctly. This is not a once off treatment, it’s a maintenance treatment offered in a course of treatments and should be incorporated yearly into your routine to ensure and maintain optimal results and skin health.
For alternative options to address skin concerns, we offer chemical peels and anti-wrinkle treatments.
FAQs about Microneedling
How painful is microneedling?
We optimise comfort and pain management in all our medical treatments. A potent numbing cream is applied to the area that is going to be treated before starting. Our patients have described the discomfort levels to range from 0/10 – 3/10
How long does the microneedling take?
The treatment duration can vary from one hour to 90 minutes depending on the areas being treated.
What can I expect after a microneedling treatment?
You can expect to have red and inflamed skin for 24-48 hours (although depending on the individual patient this downtime can last up to five days). After the treatment, we apply a medical grade concealer which is very effective in camouflaging the redness and helps with calming and healing the skin. You will experience a tight, red “sunburnt” effect with some dryness and flaking. To reduce recovery time and get the best results, we highly recommend using our post procedure cream.
What areas can be treated with microneedling?
- Face (including eye area)
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Targeted scar treatment
- Areas of hair loss
What benefits can I expect from microneedling?
Microneedling addresses both superficial skin concerns (at the epidermal level), as well as deep issues (at the level of the dermis). Your skin will be able to hold more water and active ingredients. Collagen and elastin production will increase, leading to more hydration, brighter and even skin tone, refined pores and reduced wrinkles.
The results will be visible as soon as one to two weeks post treatment. It takes 90 days for new collagen and elastin to form.
Can I do microneedling if I have rosacea?
Depending on the degree of rosacea, microneedling may be beneficial as it works to strengthen the capillaries which help reduce redness. It is important to combine the treatment with appropriate home care to get the best results.
